Better in...plum.

Unfortunately for Meagan and I, the weather where we live seems to have decided to skip straight from summer to winter. Nevertheless, we have refused to give up on fall and have continued to wear our favorite skinnies with flowy tops, throwing little schoolboy blazers or fitted leather jackets on top as our only concession to the weather gods. As the weather gets even colder, though, one way we can incorporate our favorite season into our winter layers is through little touches of the lovely shades of plum, navy and green that always come to mind when we think of a chic fall wardrobe.

On last night’s episode of better with you (episode “Better With Road Joel”), the cast was still very much in fall wardrobe-mode. Mia (Joanna Garcia) wore an immensely flattering plum silk dress with ruffled neckline detail to her baby shower.

With the deep “V” neckline and nipped-in waist, the dress (and color) would look adorable on virtually anybody. It could easily be dressed up with a pair of black heeled booties and an armful of vintage-looking bracelets, or dressed down with a messy side braid and an easy pair of ballet flats. Meagan tracked down the exact Rebecca Taylor Torn Dress that Mia wore:

You can find it at Revolve Clothing, which offers a 30% discount to first time buyers. In order to take advantage of this offer, place your order and then email sales@revolveclothing.com with the order/invoice number and they will take the discount off for you. Revolve will often also match discounts from Tobi.com for designers carried by both websites.

For a long-sleeved version as we transition into winter, Rory Beca’s Claudia Dress (left) with textured black tights and heels will bring a little bit of fall into even the dreariest winter day.

And, since both of those dresses are cost-wise what we like to call “aspirational,” Alloy’s Valerie Ruffle Dress (right) offers a chic alternative at a fraction of the price.
